Experimental determination of the properties of microstrip components

A method of measuring the transmission characteristics of microstrip components is described. A series of graphs shows the dependence of the reactive and coupling elements of the components upon frequency and dimensions. Data are given on 3 types of resonant section over bands about 200 Mc/s wide at 5000 Mc/s. A 4400-5000 Mc/s receiver with a.f.c. was made using microstrip components including directional couplers. This was much more compact than a similar receiver built from standard waveguide.
