The paramagnetic-like T sup -1 temperature dependence of the Hall coefficient R sub H and the linear-T resistivity rho are obeyed in the oxygen-deficient metallic phases of the YBCOD superconductor at elevated temperatures, the region 0.03 ~ delta (T) ~ 0.6, as revealed by a universal R sub H T vs rho /T dependence. The Hall angle increases upon oxygen desorption for delta ~ 0.2. It is proposed that in addition to the ordinary Lorentz-force term, the Hall effect in YBCO is influenced by asymmetric scattering by local magnetic moments, in a manner which is analogous to skew scattering in paramagnetic alloys. The number of holes per formula unit is estimated to be at least 2.9+-0.3.
