Facet Phases Influence on Adiabatic Chirp and Transmission Penalty for Index-Coupled Distributed-Feedback Lasers

A study of facet phase's influence on adiabatic chirp for antireflection/high reflection coated index-coupled distributed feedback laser (AR/HR IC-DFB) is realized theoretically and confirmed experimentally. The variation of HR facet phase can lead to either blue or unexpectedly to red chirp which affects the high-speed transmission performance. This represents an important criterion for laser selection in mid-range transmission applications.
