Fast Restoration For Lightwave Networks
12 April 1989
Telecommunications service providers have become acutely aware of the need for fast restoration of traffic in response to cable cuts or other failures. Lightwave systems can provide immediate (50 millisecond) restoration through techniques such as route diversity and dual fed ring networks. In this paper we discuss the economics and general engineering considerations of these two techniques when used in networks of DS3 point-to-point circuits.
