Fiber Optics, An Emerging Technology

A review of optical communications history will be given, followed by a discussion of the physics of light guidance. The primary fiber types will be discussed as will the manufacturing techniques. Light launching and detecting devices will be touched upon and their system applications will be oulined. Application examples will be given, with AT&T accomplishments prominently enumerated.
