Fiber Optics as a Physical and Media Layer for MAP

Fiber Optics has been identified as an important option for MAP (Manufacturing Automation Protocol). The IEEE 802.4 Standards committee working group has developed a proposed standard for fiber optics to support reliable, real-time factory networking applications. A fiber optic MAP modem will be described and the implications of fiber optics will be presented.
