Fiber Optics in Building Communications Systems
01 January 1986
While optical fiber is the medium of choice in today's long haul and intracity communications networks, it is not immediately clear that fiber optics are cost effctive in local building and campus communications systems. However, the fact is that fiber is currently being used to a significant and growing degree in these systems. This paper examines the considerations for fiber in building/campus communications systems and concludes that for certain applications fiber is a good choice.
