Field trial of a low-margins yet ageing-proof optical network

Operating a network close to its limits while assuring long-term health seems incongruous. Still, by leveraging a SDN-based observe-decide-act architecture, we demonstrate over a field-deployed fiber a network that can operate with low margins while automatically adjusting to ageing or failures of network equipment, including optical nodes.
