Flexibility in Current and Future Optical Access Networks [invited]

We will give an overview of our research on flexible bitrate PON with increased overall throughput or with an extended reach and power budget. Flexible schemes aiding power consumption reduction are described. We show that the throughput of a flexible bitrate PON can be further optimized when combined with a configurable ODN, and an overview of already standardized flexible concepts is given.
