Forward Error Correction Performance in Presence of Rayleigh-Dominated Transmission Noise

Performance of Forward Error Correction (FEC) scheme is investigated in presence of Rayleigh induced optical noise. Signal coherence and mutual polarization states of signal and Rayleigh backscatter are found to strongly influence the performance of the transmission architecture.
