Framework for Future Work on Intelligent Networks

This contribution addresses the subject of Intelligent Networks. Recognizing that the definition of IN is at an early stage, it is considered a prerequisite to develop a common understanding on the subject. Therefore this paper firstly discusses the concept and characteristics of the IN, together with underlying motives and benefits. Secondly it defines, at a high level, a functional architecture of IN and gives an example of a physical architecture.
