Frequency shifts caused by collisions between pulses in dispersion-managed systems

The variational equations that describe the propagation and interaction of two pulses of different frequency are derived from the nonlinear Schroedinger equation and used to obtain analytical formulas for the frequency shifts caused by pulse collisions in dispersion-managed fibers. These formulas are verified by numerical solutions of the variational and nonlinear Schroedinger equations. (C) 2002 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
