Future Telecommunications Services And Networks

Recent advances in telecommunications and computers technologies are providing opportunities to telecommunications service providers to offer new services/applications to meet user needs for high quality, integrated, flexible, responsive, easy-to-use, cost-effective, and feature rich services. In this paper we will present network capabilities that have been made possible by the advances in technologies in areas of photonics, microelectronics, and software that will enable the service providers to meet the sophisticated user needs in a timely and cost-effective manner. We will discuss our assumptions on future user needs and technology trends. Based on these assumptions, we will present our analysis on traffic requirements in terms of parameters like, bit rate, asymmetry, burstiness, response time, etc.
