Galaxy luminosity and color evolution.

I review the evidence for galaxy evolution, and describe recent observations of faint field galaxies. Preliminary results of recent CCD and photographic multi-color imaging of faint galaxies reveal strong evidence for color and luminosity evolution. Multi-color images enable studies of galaxies at redshifts up to 7 undergoing evolution, and of very low mass stars in the disk and halo of our galaxy. At 27th J mag the sky becomes confusion limited in galaxies.
