Gate study II: The effect of gate geometry on pressure drop and volumetric flow rate in transfer molding.

The present study, improving on a earlier effort, experimentally evaluates the pressure drop through gates of varying width, depth, and length, and converging angle. This is done in an actual transfer molding operation using an instrumented mold with replaceable gate blocks and a computer data acquisition system. The results provide a data and expertise base for designing multicavity molds and for developing computer design aids.
