GENETIC ACTIVITY PROFILES IN THE TESTING AND EVALUATION OF CHEMICAL MIXTURES.

Linking the AT&T Bell Laboratories data base on atmosperic chemical compounds with the EPA data base on genetic activity profiles permits complex mixtures to be ranked for carcinogenic potency as are individual compounds. This new technique, which will become increasingly powerful as data bases enlarge and analytical capabilities improve, is demonstrated here for a representative mixture of five organic compounds.
