Ground satellite coordinated study of the April 5, 1979 events: Flux variations of energetic particles and associated magnetic pulsations.
01 January 1984
A special time interval is studied in which the perpendicular plasma pressure in the afternoon sector is increased by energetic ions, injected on the nightside of the magnetosphere. In consequence, the geostationary satellite GEOS-2 most probably detected a drift mirror instability around 1400 MLT. Quasi- periodic flux variations in the pc5 period range were observed for energetic particles with pitch angles near 90degrees.
