Mice have been shown to offer superior absolute cursor positioning in user interfaces. Keyboard cursor keys, on the other hand, are slower than mice for general positioning tasks, because they use relative cursor motion. The problem with mice in keyboard intensive tasks is that it requires the user to move a hand from the keyboard to the mouse on order to take advantage of the absolute cursor positioning.
