Heaviness in Cerium and Uranium intermetallic compounds is known to arise from the overlap of f orbitals with the conduction band. We have studied the effect of modifying this "hybridization interaction" in the large spin fluctuator UPt sub 3 through selective doping on either the U or Pt sites. The results demonstrate the strong interplay of magnetism and superconductivity in this compound.
