Hermetic Sealing for an Advanced VLSI Packaging Technology

A new packaging technology interconnecting flip-chip solder attached chips on a silicon substrate is being developed at AT&T Bell Laboratories. This technology, which is referred to as Advanced VLSI Packaging (AVP), is an ideal interconnection approach for VSHIC insertion. It will impact electronic system designs by decreasing size, weight, and power, while increasing performance and reliability.
