We recently reported the synthesis and preliminary characterization of polybis(pyrrolyl)phosphazene (PBPP); this new polymer undergoes electrochemical oxidation to produce electronically conducting films. As most polyphosphazenes are electroinactive insulators, it seemed likely that the conducting pathway in oxidized PBPP originated from the pyrrolyl groups - perhaps by alpha-coupling reactions to produce a polypyrrolyl structure.
