Hierarchical restoration in a backbone network

We describe a cross-connect-based, two-level hierarchical restoration scheme for backbone networks. The scheme offers advantages in requiring less terminating equipment, decreasing the required cross-connect size, and providing a simpler topology for rerouting purposes
