High-Capacity Optical Communications: Personal Recollections

When I was asked to write this contribution, the attribute that finally persuaded me to do this job was that it has to be done at short notice. This implied that the article could not possibly be a complete and well-researched story, just personal recollections of one of the many participants in an exciting development or, better put, in an almost unbelievable technological revolution.
