High Energy Efficient Computing in Cloud RAN

Radio access network and data center are the main sources of network power consumption. Cloud RAN will be the key implementation form of RAN deployed at edge data center. The edge data center becomes the anchor point of network power consumption issue. On one side, with the adoption of the edge data center, centralized radio resource management leads to the improvement of network energy efficiency, which can also be improved by means of orchestration on demand over the resources as like storage, computing and so on; on the other side, to support network functions with diversified computing requirements in edge data center, heterogeneous computing provides an energy efficient means such that the software above and the computing hardware below can be matched on demand for energy efficiency.
