High Numerical Aperture Scalar Imaging

The equations for simulating scalar aerial images at high numerical aperture were originally derived by Cole. et. al. {1} and essentially the same considerations are discussed in the recent book by Gu {3}. Here we present an alternative derivation which may, at least in some respects, be viewed as more straightforward.
