High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy: Pretty Pictures or Real Physics?
15 June 1988
Modern High Resolution TEM micrographs are so compellingly "like images of crystal lattices" that it is difficult not to treat the TEM as a super magnifying glass. But the TEM becomes a powerful scientific tool only when it is regarded as a station for filtering the results of an electron scattering experiment. Examples will include the structure of interfaces and the chemical and structural characterization of semiconductors.
