High Sensitivity (-19 dBm) Receiver Using Photonic Integration of a SOA and a Photodiode for low cost 50 Gbauds applications

We demonstrate a low cost 50 Gbauds receiver for short reach interconnect using a monolithically integrated SOA-PIN receiver with high responsivity (148 A/W) and high speed response (50 GHz). The receiver exhibits a very high sensitivity (-19 dBm@BER=10-10) for 40 Gbit/s NRZ signals with a low TE/TM polarization dependence loss (≈1 dB).
