High Speed Frequency Modulation and Switching of Tunable Two-Segment Distributed Feedback Lasers

Two-segment distributed feedback diode lasers provide tuning and fast switching of the laser frequency. Analysis shows high speed device operation is limited by the magnitude and phase variation of the frequency modulation response function. Frequency step response function demonstrates switching time of a few hundred picoseconds.
