High Speed Modulation and Free Space Optical Audio/Video Transmission using Non-optimized Quantum Cascade Lasers
01 February 2001
High frequency modulation properties of mid-infrared emission from graded superlattice quantum cascade lasers are investigated up to a frequency of 2 GHz, showing the high frequency data transmission capabilities via direct current modulation. The application of QC lasers for free space optical communication is discussed and demonstrated in a free space television link over a distance of 70 meters.
