The book chapter reviews the current status of concepts and enabling devices for higher order modulation formats in optical transmission, comprised in current and future coherent transceivers: DP-MQAM formats are generated with transmitter DSP, DACs and I/Q modulators and received with a coherent receiver frontend followed by ADCs and DSP
