How to speak RS-232 in the UNIX(TM) world.

In theory, it should be easy to connect terminals and modems to UNIX(TM) systems. After all, virtually all interfaces conform to the RS-232-C standard. In practice, however, the situation is rather more complex. We present a brief introduction to the theory of RS-232-C, and an empirical guide to its usage in the environment.
