This chapter explores HBC, its relationship with law and its position in a legal context. In particular, this chapter addresses HBC within the framework of IP and ITC law. HBC is suitable for a number of applications, most of which are still unknown. Hence HBC represents an unexplored and evolving area of technology that needs to be addressed by law and that raises numerous issues. The latters will be discussed and commented in order to provide the reader with a clear picture of the possible developments of HBC and the law.Particular focus will be given to IP law and ITC. In addition to this and strictly related to IP, HBC will find applications in the IoT and prepare the stage for the launch of several innovations in this field, adding a new medium of transmission of information: the human body. In light of the importance of the human element, HBC is meant to be humanâcentric. Hence, it will trigger new technological applications in the field of healthcare.In light of the above, this chapter involves the now most prominent elements of HBC. These elements are, healthcare, wearable IoT, wireless communication, privacy and its unlawful access, patent law and its implications in this field of technology and, lastly, standards.
