Impact of transponders wake-up time on sleep-mode enabled translucent optical networks
01 October 2013
A very promising energy-efficient strategy in core networks is to put unused transponders into a low-power idle state. However, the no-negligible wake-up time of the transponders may dramatically impact the network performance. We show through simulations that significant degradations on performance take place for long wake-up times for various traffic conditions. We also evaluate the power savings attainable when a resource reservation strategy is adopted.
