Implementations of alternate Polarisation differential Phase Shift Keying transmission
04 March 2004
Novel methods for implementing alternate-polarization differential-phase-shift-keying optical transmission are proposed, in which adjacent bits have orthogonal polarization and data are encoded as the phase difference between the bits separated by two bit-periods. The electronic precoder and optical delay demodulator are implemented by simple modifications of the conventional DPSK devices in order to accommodate the two-bit delay. We further show that the optical data modulation and polarization alternation can be achieved with a single integrated Lithium Niobate modulator.
