Improving spectral efficiency by ultranarrow optical filtering to achieve multiterabit/s capacities

We have illustrated the potential of spectral reshaping using optical filters narrower than the channel bandwidth for 40 Gbit/s WDM systems. Whether used at the transmitter side or at the receiver side (or both), filters can provide a reduction of the reduction of cross-talk, making possible larger spectral efficiencies.
