Improving the Performance of a Network Management Reroute Algorithm Using Robust Design

In this study we use Taguchi's robust design methodology to improve network performance by adaptively modifying the routing patterns to utilize instantaneous spare network capacity. We suggest Operations Support System engineering modifications to accomplish this objective. Our results are based on a call-by-call simulator of the DNHR network, which runs on a Cray supercomputer. To our knowledge this is the first application of Taguchi's method to network optimization or to an OSS.
