Surfaces of single-crystal platinum beads prepared by flame- annealing and quenching exhibit electrochemical behavior identical to that observed for clean, well-ordered surfaces prepared in ultrahigh vacuum. The cyclic voltammogram of a flame-annealed Pt(111) surface in weakly adsorbing aqueous acid electrolyte exhibits kinetically reversible current spikes at 0.76 V.
