Increasing Polarization-Mode Dispersion Tolerance of Coherent Receivers by Joint Optimization of Chromatic Dispersion and Butterfly Equalizers

We propose a joint equalizer optimization technique for a coherent receiver and show by simulations that this technique can restore the PMD tolerance of a coherent receiver that is degraded by other inter-symbol interference impairments such as residual CD and narrow-band filtering.
