Indoor Infrared Beam Data Link.
01 January 1988
An experimental infrared beam 45 Mb/s data link has been designed, constructed and tested. The transmitter, which consists of a 0.78micron compact disk laser and a defocused imaging lens, radiates a 1.25degrees x 0.4degree beam. The retrofitted lens on an existing receiver (135OB) has a photon collecting aperture diameter of 1 cm with 1degree field of view. The transmitter and the receiver were coaligned in a transceiver plate. Measured link performance between two transceivers spaced at 11 meters showed 10 sup(-10) bit error rate with 22 dB attenuation margin.
