In the present review we present the theory of light scattering from pure fluids and illustrate it with results obtained in our laboratory. Local translational and orientational relaxations are examined. The coupling of orientation to shear and the appearance of shear waves in liquids is discussed. Light scattering near the glass transition and the appearance of viscoelasticity in liquids are especially featured.
