Multi-channel subcarrier-modulated video transmission systems and the limitations imposed by laser linearity and noise are discussed. The large loss margin for FM or digital systems and the format compatability of AM-VSB systems are ideal for passively-divided broadcast and CATV trunk applications, respectively.
