Limits of nonlinear compensation in massive WDM systems
21 April 2015
We examine the maximal achievable gains of digital back-propagation (BP) in typical modern WDM systems. We show that in a fully loaded WDM environment, the potential benefit of single-channel BP is limited to ~ 0.5dB improvement in the maximal SNR, and about 1dB and 1.2dB in the case of 3 and 5-channel BP, respectively.
