Linewidth enhancement factor in InGaAsP/InP multi-quantum well lasers.

The linewidth factor alpha in an InGaAsP/InP multi-quantum- well (MQW) laser has been determined from the spontaneous emission spectra below threshold. It is demonstrated that the measured value of alpha in the MQW laser is appreciably smaller than that in a conventional double heterostructure (DH) laser as expected from theoretical calculations.
