Long Distance (2.8 km), short wavelength (0.85microns) Data Transmission at 10 Gb/sec Over New Generation High Bandwidth Multimode Fiber

10 Gb/s transmission over 2.8 km of a new multimode fiber for next generation Ethernet backbone applications is demonstrated. These record results required the use of single mode VCSEL sources to overcome fiber chromatic dispersion and reach bandwidth-length products where the link is limited from fiber losses and not dispersion.
