Long-range Coulomb interactions and the specific heat of the large degeneracy version of the lattice Anderson model.
01 January 1987
The fermi-liquid interactions between elementary excitations in the large-degeneracy (N) auxiliary boson version of the lattice Anderson model and the concomitant T sup 3 lnT term in the specific heat are studied to leading nontrivial order in 1/N. The previously neglected but physically necessary long range part of the Coulomb interaction is included. The interaction is shown to arise entirely from exchange of virtual density fluctuations between quasiparticles. The coefficient of the T sup 3 lnT in the specific heat is computed and it observability in heavy fermion materials is discussed. The predicted T sup 3 lnT coefficient is 10 sup (-2) times smaller than the coefficient observed in UPt sub 3.
