Luminescence and fluorescence-line-narrowing studies of Y sub 3 Al sub 5 O sub 12 : Mn sup 4+ .
01 January 1986
A luminescence study of the Y sub 3 Al sub 5 O sub 12 : Mn sup 4+ system is presented. Luminescence is due to (sup 2) E -> (sup 4) A2 transistions ofn Mn sup 4+ ions which substitute for Alsup 3+ ions in distorted octahedral sites. The technique of fluorescence-line-narrowing (FLN) is used to interrogate some of the details of this transition. Measurements of the luminescence decay rates as a function of temperature are given and we attempt to relate these data to models for nonradiative processes.
