MACS - A second generation integrated circuit layout compactor.

New Image

MACS is a second generation layout compaction aid for MOS digital integrated circuits. It outperforms its predecessor (the MULGA virtual grid compactor) significantly in layout area with comparable CPU time. In particular it takes an ICDL description as input and generates XYMASK according to an extended MULGA technology file. In this first release, MACS intends to provide the leaf cell compaction function. This memo discusses it capabilities, the underlying algorithms, and performance in area and speed.
