Magnetically Tunable Fiber Bragg Gratings

We report the first demonstration of using magnetic force to strain-tune fiber Bragg gratings. We utilized the attractive magnetic force between two programmable magnets to controllably shift the wavelength of a Braff gratig as much as 15 nm. A key advantage of this technique is that the device requires no power except when shifting wavelengths.
