Magnetization and Density of States of the 2D Electron Gas in GaAs/AlGaAs Heterostructures.

Measurements of the oscillatory magnetization of 2D electrons in GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures are used to determine the density of states in large magnetic fields. Our results show a significant density of states between Landau levels, even in high-mobility single quantum wells. This contrasts with simple theoretical expectations.
