Mitigating Global Climate Change Through Equipment Standards: Telecom Experience

Standards groups should answer the call to address global climate change because they have a key role to play. This role is the establishment of metrics that will accurately portray the energy efficiency and/or environmental imapct of a product or service. Test methods that independently can validate the metrics are required as well. With test results in hand, industries can find ways to regulate themselves without requiring governmental bodies to define requirements which are likely to be less effective due to the superior knowledge of industry bodies.
